ECO·AIRŇ SAFETY PACKÔ

Modern Materials Handling Magazine

A simple concept in packaging

This new mailing package, which works by suspending an item in a plastic bag stapled or clipped to a cardboard platform that holds it away from the sides of the carton, looked so intriguing that one of our editors couldn't resist testing it out by shipping an impulse purchase back to the office. It survived and so-says the manufacturer-will fragile items like disk drives and cameras. This firm also claims it has the drop test data to substantiate that claim ...

'Fold Pack' protects products without an exterior carton

Eco·Air® company has announced the invention of a new concept in protective packaging named Eco·Air® Fold Pack, which eliminates a step in the packaging line process and is said to reduce assembly time up to 30 percent and reducing total packaging costs up to 20 percent.

In the package, a product is inserted into a plastic tube, then each end of the tube is passed through an aperture near opposite edges of a corrugated paperboard platform.  When the ends of the tube are pulled tightly and stapled to the ends of the edges of the platform, it is designed to float the "cargo" safely on top of the support platform.

This system is said to eliminate the packaging process step of inserting the protectively wrapped cargo into a carton.  Having the shaped and scored exterior wall sections integrally formed as part of the platform during the die cut operation reduces the corrugated paperboard requirement by over twenty percent.

The cargo is protected from damage by being safely floated on the platform, which is positioned an inch above the bottom of the integral exterior surface.   When the carton is dropped in any orientation most of the impact energy is absorbed either by the deflection bending of the platform or the stretching of the bag thereby protecting the cargo from damage.

Corrugated cushioning shipper
eliminates need for foam or void fill materials

New Eco·Air® Fold Pack consists of a corrugated platform with attached scored sections that can be folded up into a triangular or rectangular shape.  Cargo is simply inserted into a plastic tube, then each end of the tube is passed through an aperture near opposite edges of the platform.  The ends of the tube are stapled to the edges of the platform, floating the cargo safely on top of the support platform.  The package is then ready to be folded up into either a triangular or rectangular shape.  The cargo is protected from damage by being safely floated on the platform, which is positioned an inch above the bottom of the integral exterior surface.  When the carton is dropped, most of the energy is absorbed by the platform as it bends or the bag as it stretches.  Foldpack is made of 98% corrugated that is easily recycled and is easily reusable.
